This year's Community Shield goes to...... MANCHESTER UNITED!! it was man united's game all the while. they dominated possession, they dominated play. portsmouth had to defend deep..and i mean real deep. they were playing the counter game. they protected the ball at the back while united piled on the pressure. there were signs that portsmouth were gonna crack when united seemed to have broken the deadlock, but it just wasnt meant to be. fletcher missed an easy one after nani did all the hardwork. then nani himself missed a great opportunity to score. all this happened in the first half.
then during the second half, portsmouth did threathen united's goal a few times, but they were all poor efforts. not worth mentioning. then fletcher missed another chance, but this time it was all thanks to portmouth goal keeper david james who got the vital touch to send fletcher's effort against the cross-bar. then there were some sloppy play from both sides as the game neared its end. then the inevitable happened. all players nightmare. Penalties. its really a very cruel way to decide a match after both teams played so hard. but there always have to be a loser and a winner to a match. the first to take a shot was a player from portsmouth. the pressure on him was immense. one true enough, the pressure got to him as he sent his shot way over the cross bar. the united fans cheered as the portsmouth player failed to convert his shot.
the penalties went on and man united converted all 3 of their penalties while portsmouth missed another 2 more, scoring only one. so it concluded as Manchester united 3, Portsmouth 1.
Banzai Manchester United!!! it will be a happy day for Man United fans all around the world. Especially me... at least united are off to a winning start. and next week they will begin their defence of their premier league crown. XD
